Northbrook Veterans To Be Honored At All-School Assembly

Northbrook Junior High will host American Legion Post 791 on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

NORTHBROOK, IL — For the last decade, Northbrook Junior High and Northbrook District 28 have honored local veterans on Veterans Day, and this Nov. 11 will be no different. The school will host American Legion Post 791, starting at 10:30 a.m., at 1475 Maple Ave.

Local veterans and their guests are invited to attend the all-school assembly. According to the district, the program will feature keynote speaker Erica Borggren, a former Army captain who served in Iraq, in the Republic of Korea, and through the U.S. Central Command region in the Middle East. She currently serves as vice president, Corporate Customer Strategy & Solutions for Exelon Corporation.

Jim Ossey, American Legion Post 791 commander, is set to serve as master of ceremonies, while Chaplain Tom Mahoney will lead the opening and closing prayers. In addition, the NBJH Wind Ensemble will perform a patriotic song.

Following the ceremony in the large gym, the Sons of American Legion Squadron 791 will present a rifle salute and followed by the traditional performance of "Taps" around the flagpole outside.

"Northbrook Junior High is thrilled to play host for such a meaningful event for the community," NBJH Principal Dr. Scott Meek said. "We know how much Veterans Day and this ceremony means to our local veterans. It's important that our school community is aware of the sacrifices they have made and that we honor all they have done to make our country a great place to live."
