NORTHBROOK, IL — On his 100th birthday, longtime Northbrook resident Donald C. White was surprised by a special visit recently at his home. White, who reached the milestone on Oct 19, was serenaded by members of Northbrook American Legion Post 791 with a "hearty rendition" of Happy Birthday while his family looked on.

White was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, in 1925. He and his wife, Marge, have been married for 65 years and have called Northbrook home since 1961.

Richard J. Kennedy, public affairs liaison for the organization, tells Patch that White served in the Navy onboard the U.S.S. Oyster Bay as a signalman from 1943 to 1945 during World War II.
