NORTHBROOK, IL — With local athletes, personal trainers, registered dietitians, fitness gurus and the like all providing testimonials about the health benefits of eating food at Protein Bar & Kitchen, it's no wonder the Northbrook community is buzzing about the restaurant opening a location here this spring. The 243 Skokie Blvd. location will be the chain's second on the North Shore, following in the footsteps of a restaurant at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion at Evanston's Northwestern University.

Protein Bar was founded in 2009 in Chicago to provide guests with "a needed oasis of filling, protein-rich sustenance serving up salads, bowls, protein shakes, acai bowls, and breakfast." The owners recently told Patch they're excited about the latest North Shore expansion.

"We have had our eye on Northbrook for a long time as it’s the perfect spot for us to begin our suburban growth," Protein Bar & Kitchen CEO Jeff Drake said. "We have been known for our urban locations near office buildings and we are now exploring expansion outside of the city as well as airports, hospitals, and universities to diversify our footprint."

Similar to its 10 locations in Chicago, the Northbrook restaurant will feature an expansive menu of bowls, salads, protein shakes, açaí bowls and breakfast, along with grab-and-go snacks, according to the company. Unique to the Northbrook location is the first Protein & Bar restaurant to feature an expanded children's menu, which the owners say "reflects the familial makeup of the community."

The owners are also touting an "enhanced experience" at the Northbrook location that will optimize dining at the restaurant, as well as to-go orders and delivery services.
