Resident Slaps Contractor In Face Over Work Issue: Northbrook Police Blotter

The resident had reportedly grown frustrated with the hired worker when the incident occurred.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Soltan Adzhamatov, of Wheeling, is accused of driving under the influence, and was arrested at 2:58 p.m. July 19, in the 1700 block of Techny Road. Police were responding to a non-injury car crash in a parking lot. The other driver said Adzhamatov had backed into their truck. When police tried to speak to Adzhamatov, they found him asleep at the wheel of his car. A court date of Aug. 22 was assigned.

BATTERY

  • Howard M. Newman, of Northbrook, is accused of battery, and was arrested at 9:48 p.m. July 29, in the 1000 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police had responded to an altercation in a parking garage. The victim said he had been struck by Newman during a road rage argument. A court date of Aug. 14 was assigned.
  • Lawerecne E. Barr, of Northbrook, is accused of battery, and was arrested at 9:29 a.m. July 23, at his home in the 4400 block of Four Winds Lane following an altercation. Police said Barr became frustrated with a hired contractor over a work issue. During the altercation, Barr reportedly slapped the worker in the face. A court date of Sept. 10 was assigned.

Zain Ahmad, of Skokie, is accused of having an expired registration, suspended registration, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 4:32 p.m. July 21, at Dundee and Waukegan roads. A court date of Aug. 11 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

A citizen reported at 11:32 a.m. July 19, that someone had smashed out a southeast window of a closed church in the 3700 block of Dundee Road.

ATTEMPTED RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A resident in the 2700 block of Greenwood Road reported at 10:04 p.m. July 19, that while they had taken their dog for a walk in the evening, they had returned to find the front door window of their home had been smashed by a rock. It appears those responsible did not enter the home. Police checked the area, but were unable to find anyone involved.

ILLEGAL DUMPING

Police had received several complaints about illegal dumping in the area of a school in the 1000 block of Pfingsten Road over the last few weeks. While on patrol at 3:28 a.m. July 20, police saw a 2018 gray Toyota with its lights on. They saw the driver dumping food productions on the ground. The driver said she was dumping the food for local wildlife. She was cited for illegal dumping and a court date of Aug. 18 was assigned.

COMPUTER FRAUD

A Skokie Boulevard resident reported at 9:43 p.m. July 20, that someone had accessed his Merryl Lynch account and attempted a wire transfer of $97,500. While attempting to stop the transfer, the complainant said he had been locked out of that account, his bank account, his cell phone account and his email. It appeared the person was able to clone the complainant’s phone and email, so all correspondence went to them.

FLEEING AND ELUDING

Police saw a black sedan with a defective taillight traveling at a high rate of speed at 12:45 a.m. July 23, in the 600 block of Waukegan Road. The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle fled and was last seen traveling southbound on the Edens Expressway.

EMAIL SCAM

An Exeter Lane resident called police at 3:44 p.m. July 23, to report receiving an email regarding a job opportunity and applied for it. A person emailed him back and the complainant was hired. Part of the onboarding was the complainant had to purchase several Apple electronics and have them shipped to an address. The staff also demanded that the complainant purchase Apple gift cards as part of the onboarding. The complainant followed the instructions and purchased the items with his own money. When he never got reimbursed, he questioned their intentions. They sent him checks for the reimbursement, but they all bounced. The company staff is now not communicating with him. The total loss of money is $896.84.

THEFT

  • A citizen reported at 12:28 a.m. July 24, she had left her wallet on the counter at a gas station in the 1900 block of Willow Road. When she returned to retrieve it, her credit card was missing. The employee of the gas station said someone saw that the complainant left the wallet and tried to return it to her, but when he couldn’t find her, he gave the wallet back to the attendant. It is unknown when the credit card was taken.
  • A resident of an assisted living facility in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 3:59 p.m. July 24, her Seiko watch was missing from her apartment. The complainant did not know when it was taken. The total loss was $150.
  • A citizen called police at 11:28 p.m. July 24, to report he had put his Sony headphones in his backpack and placed it on an open shelf while he was in the sauna at his fitness facility in the 4100 block of Dundee Road. When he returned, the headphones were stolen. The total loss was $399.99.
