Residents Sound Off Against Proposed Walmart

What do you think is a better way to occupy 1000 Skokie Blvd.?

Last week, readers left quite a few comments on Patch and Facebook sharing their mostly unfavorable feelings towards the proposed Walmart for 1000 Skokie Blvd.
Despite Walmart representatives' talking about the number of new jobs they bring and employees' average salaries, residents are still concerned about traffic and surrounding property values.

"
Poorly paid jobs. Not worth it." Vicki Davis Otis wrote on Facebook.

"I can only guess how many jobs will be lost, however, by those businesses that will be forced to shut down due to Walmart policies." Bob Blinick added.

Meanwhile, Patch user Rich Kurnick wrote, "I agree with everyone here that our home values will lose value with a Walmart in our backyard. How about a couple of Auto Dealerships."

Another user named Anne added, "The traffic on Sunset Ridge now is a nightmare. I can't even get off my street during rush hour."

Check out the video above for a look at Friday evening traffic next to 1000 Skokie Blvd. Shot at about 5:00 p.m. last week.

What do you think should be done with the lot at 1000 Skokie Blvd.? According to the property owner, no one else has been interested in buying it in about 10 years.
