Thief Picks Up $18K Jewelry At Cleaning Service In Name Of Customer: Northbrook Police Blotter
The unknown person had stolen three necklaces, two bracelets, and a watch, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE
- Christian N. Gonzalez, of Berwyn, is accused of having a defective headlight, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 12:40 a.m. June 27, at Dundee and Midway roads. A court date of Aug. 8 was assigned.
- Anthony J. Talavera, of Chicago Heights, is accused of having a suspended registration, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 9:40 p.m. July 2, at Willow and Landwehr roads. A court date of July 22 was assigned.

- Luis Aparicio, of Mount Prospect, is accused of having a suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 1:16 a.m. June 27, at Landwehr and Willow roads. A court date of July 29 was assigned.
- Victor Degante, of Chicago, is accused of having a suspended registration, expired registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 9:34 p.m. June 28, at Dundee and Landwehr roads. A court date of Aug. 11 was assigned.

THEFT

A citizen reported at 12:10 p.m. June 27, she had gone to her jewelry store in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road to pick up the jewelry that she had dropped off for cleaning seven days prior. The staff said someone using her name had already picked up the jewelry. She advised them she didn’t pick up the jewelry and she never authorized anyone to use her name. The unknown person had stolen three necklaces, two bracelets, and a watch having a total value of $18,000.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A citizen called police at 3:46 p.m. June 30, to report someone had used her credit card to make two fraudulent purchases at a hardware store in the 700 block of Greenwood Road in the amount of $5,000 each time. The complainant canceled the credit card, and the company is looking into the criminal matter.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A citizen reported at 10:49 a.m. July 1, someone had forced open the rear door and smashed two windows on an abandoned house in the 800 block of Dundee Road.
CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT
The management of a housing complex in the 1200 block of Rudolph Road reported at 9:07 a.m. July 2, that on several occasions their staff have found feces on the floor of their fitness rooms, pool house and in their bathroom sinks. On two separate occasions, an unknown person has defecated in the stairwell halls as well.
THEFT FROM VEHICLE
The staff at a Northbrook business in the 3200 block of Arnold Lane reported at 1:04 p.m. July 2, that they had learned someone stole the rear license plate off of their work van. They noticed the theft when they started receiving parking violations from the city of New York. The staff are working with New York to get the tickets dismissed.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 1900 block of Farnsworth Lane reported at 1:49 p.m. July 2, she was supposed to receive a reimbursement check in the mail sometime in January. She never received the check and contacted the reimbursement company. They said someone had intercepted the check in the mail and used the complainant’s identity to cash it at a currency exchange in another town. The check was in the amount of $50,000.
COMPUTER FRAUD
A resident in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard called police at 3:42 p.m. July 2, to report he had been dealing with a printer issue on his computer. He found a phone number to a support service and called it. The person on the other line convinced the complainant to allow him access to his computer. After 48 minutes, the person was able to hack into the complainant’s bank accounts and attempt to withdraw money. The complainant contacted his family member, and they assisted him with contacting the banks and canceling the withdrawals. They also assisted him with setting up dual authentication to help secure the accounts.
