USA's Top Disability Soccer Players Heading To Northbrook For National Camp

It marks the first time Illinois has ever hosted the event, according to the United Adaptive Soccer Association.

NORTHBROOK, IL — For the first time ever, Illinois will be hosting the United Adaptive Soccer Camp, happening this weekend at Northbrook's North Shore SportsCenter. According to organizers, the event featuring some of the best disability soccer players in the country will take place Friday through Sunday.

The camp, which runs during Disability Pride Month, is hosted by the United Adaptive Soccer Association. More than 70 athletes with disabilities from over 20 states will take part in "a powerful showcase" of inclusive sport. Players represent six disability-specific soccer pathways: amputee, cerebral palsy, dwarfism, intellectual disability, power soccer, and pan-disability recreation.

"Our goal is to create an environment where all may play," said Joslynn Bigelow, president of UASA. "This camp creates a space where athletes with disabilities are not 'inspirational stories' — they are soccer players, allies, and developing leaders. Local athletes can expect flexible programming and disability mentorship."

The organization is excited to bring the fun to Illinois following successful camps in North Carolina, Texas and California. Attendees will get a chance to witness high-level disability sport in action.

According to its website, UASA was founded in 2023 to bridge the gap in access to soccer opportunities for individuals with disabilities, addressing the unmet needs within the U.S. Soccer landscape.
