Northcenter Chamber Promises Holiday Decorations Soon

Those from the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce are asking residents to be patient. Holiday decorations are coming, according to a recent letter.

Those wondering why holiday decorations are lagging at Lincoln Avenue and Irving Park Road can rest assured.

The typical adornments, which pepper the light poles in that area, will be put up next week, according to information sent Friday afternoon by the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce.

"Our installation of the new flag pole in Northenter Town Square in November was an unexpected expense and used up the 2012 community beautification budget line," chamber officials said, in a letter to the editor.

The letter then cited the chamber's decision to decline delegate grant funding from the city in 2013.

" ... We need to be that much more careful about our financial decisions," the letter says. "Since the decorations are such an important part of the holiday season we needed just a little extra time to find the money and be sure we could afford it."

The Northcenter Chamber of Commerce provides holiday decorations to the community, yet not Special Service Area No. 38, which it manages.

"The mission of our SSA is clean and green and does not include holiday decorations," the letter says. "By keeping to the SSA’s core services like landscaping, snow removal and litter pick-up, we are able to keep the property tax assessment just a little lower for the owners within the district."

The decoration donation underscores the chamber's dedication to making Northcenter a great place to live, work and play, the letter says.

"In fact, by the end of 2012 we will have contributed over $60,000 in cash and services back to the community through our philanthropy program, the Ribfest Volunteer Grants, and the senior luncheon with Alderman Pawar on Dec. 21," officials said.
