Boston Marathon Explosions; 361 Chicagoans Entered (VIDEO)

Two explosions Monday near the finish line of the Boston Marathon have left three dead and 144 wounded, the New York Times is reporting.

Bloodied competitors and volunteers were seen leaving the scene and a medical tent near the finish was being used to treat the injured, the Times reports. Fox news cites the Boston Police Department in reporting that at least three people are dead—one of which is an 8-year-old boy—and injuries ranged from scrapes to severed limbs.

Boston Police also say no suspects have been taken into custody, according to CNN.

Though he did not use the words "terrorist attack," President Barack Obama said, "any responsible individuals, any responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice," in a national address about 5 p.m. Monday.

Nearly 40,000 people compete in the Boston Marathon annually with runners coming from all over the world. Of the 974 Illinoisans who registered for this year's race, 361 hail from within Chicago's city limits, according to the race’s website. 

Fourteen entrants live in the 60618 zip code area, which covers most of North Center and Roscoe Village. Fifty people were registered with the zip code 60657, which covers the east side of town and most of Lake View.
