Dirty Utensils and Coolers Found in Coffee Shop

Patch examined inspection reports in North Center over the month of December. Information has been compiled using publicly available data published to the website of the Chicago Department of Public Health's Food Protection Program.

Restaurants can pass, pass with conditions or fail using a standardized procedure. Establishments that pass don't have any critical or serious violations. Those that receive 'pass with conditions' had serious violations, but the violations were corrected during the inspection. Failed establishments had serious violations that weren't correctable during the inspection. A fail rating does not mean the business's license is automatically suspended.

Red Eyes Coffee, 4164 N. Lincoln Ave.
Inspection date: Dec. 4
Results: Pass
Violations: This visit was the result of a complaint. Multi-use utensils must be properly stored on shelves at the rear dishwashing area. The inspector found food debris on equipment utensils and coolers. The coolers, mop sinks and storage cabinets need to be cleaned and sanitized. The floors, furnace room, corners and walls also need to be detail-cleaned. Food handlers need to wear hair restraints.

Kids Work Chicago Childcare, 2601 W. Addison
Inspection date: Dec. 6
Results: Pass
Violations: Management needs to seal openings around pipes under sinks and walls. A self-closing device is needed for the first floor staff washroom door. The daycare is also missing a back floor preventer for the mop sink and long stem food thermometers.

Results: Pass
Violations: Management needs to seal the openings and cracks on brick walls throughout the front area and storage room.
