Man Still at Large After Roscoe Village Car Chase, Shooting

Police caught two suspects, but say the man who fled the scene is still on the loose.

One of the suspects behind a car chase that ended in Roscoe Village with a dangerous crash is still on the loose, Chicago Police say.

Two suspects—who police have yet to release charges for—were taken into custody Jan. 10 around 9:30 a.m. when a car chase beginning in the Austin community made its way to the North Side. Police say they’re still on the hunt for the man who fled the scene.

“There is an investigative alert out for him, but nobody’s been picked up or charged for that incident yet,” said Sgt. Jason Clark with the 19th Police District. “An investigative alert is like a warrant.”

Shortly after the crash, police updated residents saying the man was armed and dangerous. Later a witness reported seeing the suspect, described as a Hispanic male wearing blue jeans, a black jacket and a shirt.

The car chase started with police in Austin’s 25th District when they pulled over the vehicle for a routine traffic stop. That’s when they sped off, later being tracked by Illinois State Troopers.

Shots were fired, police say, but authorities were not certain whether they were directed at any officers or pedestrians.

The chase ended when the suspects reached the 1700 block of West School Street, near the intersection with North Paulina, slamming into a pickup truck and flipping over. One of the suspects was critically injured and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Lake View.

By 11 a.m., a man and woman were in custody. Patch will update the story when charges are released.
