North Center Getting First Bike Share Station By Monday (MAP)

Before July 29, the North Center neighborhood will get its first Divvy bike share station, according to an announcement made on Tuesday. Read on and consult our map to learn where you'll find that one, as well as the rest in or near the area.

Though snubbed in the initial launch of the city's new bike share program, the North Center neighborhood will now finally be seeing its first baby blue Divvy station.

Seven of the setups will land within the neighborhood, while about seven more will pepper the neighborhood's Montrose and Ravenswood borders. One of the community's own stations—Damen and Wellington avenues—will be up and running by July 29, according to a map released to the public Tuesday afternoon

By that same date, a nearby Diversey Parkway and Paulina Street will be available to riders.

The the other six local kiosks—as well as the seven to ten nearby ones—are also coming, but their arrival dates had not yet been set as of Tuesday afternoon.

The North Center kiosks include:

  • Diversey Parkway and Clybourn Avenue - 19 bike docks
  • Damen Avenue and Wellington Street - 15 bike docks
  • Damen Avenue and Melrose Street - 11 docks
  • Damen Avenue and Roscoe Street - 11 bike docks
  • Ravenswood Avenue and Addison Street - 19 bike docks
  • Wolcott Street and Grace Street - 15 bike docks
  • Damen Avenue and Bell Plaine Avenue - 19 bike docks
In the above map, the green pins signify those stations being added between July 23 and 29 and the yellow mark those that will eventually be added.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said since starting Divvy in June with just 70 bike kiosks, riders have already taken more than 25,000 trips and ridden an estimated 88,000 miles.

Now Divvy staff plan to ramp up the program to 300 stations and 3,000 bikes by the end of summer.

Once completed in spring of 2014, Divvy will be in 400 Chicago neighborhood locations with 4,000 bikes.
