Northcenter Neighbors Whip Up Dinner for a Good Cause
The community organization learned a few skills in the kitchen, enjoyed a good meal, and then fed the less fortunate.
Area residents cooked a meal for a good cause Tuesday night, learning a few tricks in the kitchen along the way.
It’s all a part of the Northcenter Neighborhood Association’s new Community Kitchen Night to benefit The Common Pantry. About 10 residents joined guest chef Sandy Hartman at Epiphany United Church of Christ at 2008 W. Bradley Place to cook a meal for the less fortunate.
The BYOB—and BYO-knife—event had Hartman teaching neighbors how to make hearty chicken, carrot and barley stoup using a homemade chicken stock. After whipping up the delicious dish, the group enjoyed a few bowls of their hard work before sharing it with clients at the Common Pantry the following day during their Community Meal.

This was the Northcenter Neighborhood Association’s second Community Kitchen Night, with the first one taking place in February with guest chef Hank Prekop. During that event, the group learned how to make Prekop’s famous gumbo.
