Organizers Question Value of North Side Summerfest

Those who help coordinate North Side Summerfest on Lincoln Avenue in North Center discussed its fate this past week.

The future of North Side Summerfest is in limbo as organizers discuss its contribution to the area and overall success, according to reports.

Garrett FitzGerald, executive director of that Northcenter Chamber of Commerce said the fate of the late-August celebration on Lincoln Avenue in North Center will be decided early next year, according to a story in the Center Square Journal.

“The question is, do we think we can get this thing to make some real money down the road?” FitzGerald said. “You don’t start a festival to make money year 1, 2 or 3. You start a festival to make money in years 4, 5 and 6.”

FitzGerald estimated the chances that the festival would be canceled at about 10 percent, and the odds for a drastic overhaul around 50 percent, he said.
