Sal’s Barber Shop Cutting Out the Fluff in Roscoe Village
Chicago Grid takes a look at a Roscoe Village barber shop that's been in the neighborhood since the 1960s.

In the midst of $100 hair cuts lies a barber shop that doesn’t sell designer products and has never accepted a credit card for payment. Frank Sinatra plays on the radio over two barber chairs that haven’t changed since opening in 1967.
Sal’s Barber Shop in Roscoe Village is saturated with high-end salons and studios, touting barbers as artists.
But owner Joe Munoz calls himself a barber and the only one at Sal’s. He’s owned the shop since 2006 after buying it from the original Sal Mineo. Since then, Munoz has only made minor upgrades, and kept the price of a haircut—only $20—the same.

“The barbershop is pretty low maintenance,” Munoz told business publication Chicago Grid. “Keep people with good customer service, try and give a good haircut, and hopefully they’ll be back.”
