Suspicious Bag Thrown Onto CTA Bus Cleared By Chicago Police K9 Unit
UPDATED: A man tossed the bag onto a bus in the Irving Park neighborhood, then fled Tuesday.

CHICAGO, IL — A hazardous materials team was called in to help deal with a suspicious bag that was thrown into a CTA bus on the Northwest Side, according to the Chicago Tribune. But a bomb-sniffing Chicago police K9 unit found that the bag was not an explosive, the report added.
The incident happened at around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Kimball and Elston avenues in the Irving Park neighborhood, the report stated. Chicago police and fire crews were called in immediately, and the hazmat unit responded at around 4:50 p.m., the report added.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, a man threw a bag onto a CTA bus, then fled, the report stated. The passengers were taken off the bus, and traffic was redirected around the area, the report added. It's not yet known if the bus was moving or what the passengers were told to do once the bus was evacuated. As of just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, emergency units and first responders were still evaluating the situation. Police closed off streets around the area while the bag was being investigated.
