No one was injured after the theater was evacuated after firefighters arrived at the Oakbrook Terrace theater to find heavy smoke inside.

OAKBROOK TERACE, IL — A fire that broke out inside a mechanical room inside the Drury Lane Theater on Tuesday created heavy smoke, but no one was injured in the blaze after employees were evacuated from the building fire, officials said.

Fire crews were called to the theater at 12:13 p.m. on Tuesday after smoke was reported coming from the inside of the building, Oakbrook Terrace interim chief Johnny Turkovich told Patch on Tuesday afternoon.

Turkovich said that Oakbrook Terrace firefighters entered the building and immediately detected a strong odor of smoke and found heavy smoke coming from the north side of the theater on the second floor. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and Turkovich said that the theater’s sprinkler system did its job and kept the fire in check.
