Man, 25, Dies After Being Struck By Oncoming Vehicle Following I-57 Crash: State Police
The man had stepped out of a car after a crash, and was hit by a passing vehicle early Sunday in Country Club Hills.
COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, IL — A person killed by a passing vehicle following a crash on I-57 southbound early Sunday morning has been identified as a 25-year-old Park Forest man, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Illinois State Police were called to I-57 southbound near Vollmer Road around 4 a.m., for a report of a multi-vehicle, fatal crash. Initial reports show a crash had happened, and an occupant of one of the cars got out of their vehicle and was struck by another passing vehicle. That man—now identified as Riley Vercher, 25—died from his injuries, police said.
Another person was taken to an area hospital, state police said.

It was unclear Sunday afternoon if the driver who struck Vercher remained on the scene. An investigation is ongoing, state police said.
I-57 southbound at I-80 and the I-80 ramp to I-57 southbound were closed for investigation, but all lanes reopened around 10 a.m.
