COOK COUNTY — The Cook County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about a scam where callers impersonate sheriff's police officers and demand payment on overdue citations.
The sheriff's office on Wednesday alerted the public to the phone scam, where callers claim the person has missed court or has unpaid citations, threatening arrest if payment isn't made immediately.
These calls are a scam, the sheriff's office said. Anyone who believes they have been targeted is asked to call the Sheriff's Police Investigations Section at 708-865-4896, or the Sheriff's Police non-emergency line at 847-635-1188.
