159th Street To Be Closed For Road Construction

The roadwork on 159th between Cicero and Oak avenues begins in April.

OAK FOREST, IL — Road construction will shut down 159th Street between Oak and Cicero avenues into the summer, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The street will be closed starting Monday, April 2, and will reopen in June, the agency said.

A detour will be set up for eastbound traffic on 159th Street to go south on Harlem Avenue, east on 167th Street and north on Cicero Avenue, meeting back with 159th, according to IDOT. Traffic on westbound 159th Street will take the reverse route.

The construction is being done to replace the culvert that carries 159th Street, as well as Cicero Avenue, over Midlothian Creek, IDOT says. The project also consists of intersection improvements, including channelization, traffic signal modernization and drainage work.
