18 Years In Prison For Oak Forest Man After Child Porn Guilty Plea
Jason Akai, 47, was sentenced Tuesday for charges stemming from a 2019 child pornography investigation.

OAK FOREST, IL — An Oak Forest man who pleaded guilty to child porn charges was sentenced Tuesday to two, consecutive nine-year terms in the Department of Corrections.
Jason Akai, 47, was one of two people arrested in 2019 on child pornography charges after an investigation by Buffalo Grove Police. The sentence was delivered in Lake County Circuit Court.
Akai was charged in 2019 with 23 criminal felony counts that included predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under 13 years of age and child pornography. All but two charges leveled against Akai were dropped prior to the plea, in what is described as a negotiated guilty plea, according to court records.

Charges remaining at the time of his plea included child pornography, victim under 13 and child pornography, moving depiction. Two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child each carried the heaviest sentence, of 6 to 30 years in prison. Those charges were dropped.
Akai was arrested after the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services received a tip from an out-of-state therapist, according to the state's attorney. A multi-week investigation determined Kimberly Marie Schubert, 46, distributed pornographic images to Akai. Authorities recovered evidence from Akai's home.
