MIDLOTHIAN, IL β€” A 29-year-old Midloanthian man is being held on a $1 million bond after he was arrested and charged on Wednesday after he crashed his car during a police pursuit in an Elmhurst neighborhood, authorities said.

Gonzalo Guerrero was arrested on a number of felony charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing and eluding police, and possession of a controlled substance, the DuPage County State's Attorney Office announced on Thursday.

About 1:30 p.m., an Elmhurst police officer saw a 2020 Nissan that was identified as having been stolen in a carjacking the previous day in Chicago, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. That was near St. Charles Road and Fair Avenue.

Guerrero's car was so damaged that an officer had to break a window to remove him. During a search, officers found cocaine in Guerrero's possession, authorities said. He was taken to the hospital and then released.

In a statement, State's Attorney Robert Berlin said Guerrero's "lawlessness and complete disregard" for the safety of others will not be tolerated.
