Armed Carjacking Leads To Chase At Midlothian Gas Station: Police

MIDLOTHIAN, IL — An armed carjacking that lead to a high speed chase occurred in the parking lot of a Midlothian gas station early Wednesday morning, according to Midlothian police.

Police said around 1:50 a.m., a bystander flagged an officer down, after seeing three suspicious people, wearing masks and gloves in the parking lot of Amstar Gas Station — located at 14506 S. Pulaski Road. While the bystander alerted police, the three suspects approached a customer inside the gas station, asking to purchase tobacco products on their behalf, police said.

This is when the customer walked over to the three suspects, and one pulled out a handgun, demanding the customer's keys, wallet and cellphone, police said. The customer then gave the suspects the demanded materials, and the three went off to the victim's car, parked at a gas pump.

When the three got in the victim's car, the officer who was alerted moments prior entered the parking lot, seeing the three get in the car, police said. The officer then activated the vehicle's emergency lights, so the suspects don't drive off, but the stolen vehicle then soared off at a high speed, while the officer followed through a number of neighboring towns. Police said officials eventually lost the stolen car.

Police said officials from various jurisdictions continued to look for the car, and eventually found it, unoccupied, with the victim's cellphone inside.
