Beloved, Longtime Oak Forest Taxpayer Advocate Guy Gattone Dies At 84

Guy Gattone served as the City of Oak Forest's taxpayer advocate for 12 years. He was ready for another term, running uncontested April 4.

OAK FOREST, IL β€” A longtime Oak Forest resident and public official has died. Guy Gattone, 84, was a 60-year resident of Oak Forest, spending just over a decade in the role of taxpayer advocate with the city.

"It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Taxpayer Advocate Guy Gattoneβ€”our good friend, neighbor and colleague," Oak Forest officials shared on social media.

In addition to his 12 years as taxpayer advocate, Gattone also served as a parks commissioner for 24 years, officials said. He was ready for another term as taxpayer advocate, running uncontested on the ballot this April 4.

Condolences began trickling into the City's social media shortly after the announcement.

"Guy was a pillar of the City," one resident wrote. "He helped so many during his time at the City and Park District. We will miss him so much. Praying for his family."

Another said he was a "wonderful man who helped so many."

Visitation and funeral arrangements are pending.
