Boy, 8, Killed In Shooting Meant For Older Brother: Police

MARKHAM, IL β An 8-year-old boy is dead after he was shot while playing in front of his Markham home, police said Monday.
Demetrius Stevenson was shot in the head at around 5 p.m. Monday on the corner of 157th and Homan streets.
Police said the young boy was playing in the front yard when someone stepped out of a car and fired shots. Someone on the street fired back and there was "unfortunate crossfire," authorities at the scene told reporters.

Police said they believe the person was aiming for Demetrius's older brother.
The boy's 18-year-old brother was taken into custody at the scene on a separate warrant, according to Markham police. Officials said the person in the car had come from Chicago looking for Demetrius's brother and that the shooting was gang-related.

Demetrius had just started third grade, according to police at the scene.
