Bremen D228 Students Recognized By National Merit Scholarship Corp
Tyler Burns at Oak Forest High School and Jacob Moslander at Tinley Park High School were each named commended students.
OAK FOREST, IL — Two Bremen High School District 228 students have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as commended students for exceptional academic promise, according to a news release from the school district.
Tyler Burns, a senior at Oak Forest High School, and Jacob Moslander, a senior at Tinley Park High School, were two of only approximately 34,000 students across the country to receive national recognition as commended students, according to the release.
Commended students place among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said a spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
Burns and Moslander were each given Letters of Commendation on their accomplishments by their respective schools.

“I am humbled to be receiving this honorary recognition for my hard work," Moslander said. "I hope to continue my strong academic career throughout college and beyond. I am grateful for all of the teachers and staff of Tinley Park High School for providing me with an amazing and unforgettable education.”
And Burns offered some advice to fellow students on achieving the the commended students recognition.
“Pay attention when teachers are highlighting PSAT material. Although it gets harder, it’s worth it,” Burns said. “Think about how your schedule works for you.”
Bremen High School District 228 serves students in Oak Forest, Tinley Park, Midlothian, Posen, Markham, Hazel Crest and Country Club Hills.
