Bremen Hosts Senior Lit Fest With Award-Winning Author Paul Volponi

Bremen High School hosted its first annual Senior Lit Fest today, an event dedicated to celebrating literature, creativity, and the power of storytelling. The festival featured award-winning author Paul Volponi, who engaged students with a dynamic discussion about his journey as a writer, his experiences as a teacher, and the importance of creative expression.
Volponi, a celebrated author known for his impactful young adult novels such as Rikers High, Black and White, and The Final Four, has spent decades writing stories that resonate with teens. His books often explore themes of social justice, personal growth, and resilience, making him an ideal guest speaker for Bremen’s literary celebration.
"I have always loved working with kids," said Volponi. "I was a teacher for 16 years and miss being a teacher. It’s a good natural spot for me. I like working with middle school and high school-aged students. I teach creative writing, and it’s a terrific amount of fun."

The event, held at the Bremen Library, ran from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and included a book signing, literary swag giveaways, and an interactive writing exercise designed to inspire students to explore their own storytelling abilities.
With a successful first year, Bremen High School hopes to make the Senior Lit Fest an annual tradition, continuing to foster a love for literature and creativity among students.

Bremen High School District 228 is located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago and serves the communities of Midlothian, Posen, Tinley Park, Markham, Hazel Crest, Country Club Hills and Oak Forest.
