Car Stolen In Oak Forest Crashes In Alsip, Chicago Ridge Man Arrested

The car was stolen from the 5600 block of Independence Avenue at 7:45 a.m. The driver behind the wheel crashed it at 8 a.m., police said.

OAK FOREST, IL — A car stolen in Oak Forest Wednesday was crashed minutes later in Alsip, police said. A Chicago Ridge man driving the car was taken into custody, police said.

The 2020 Toyota Corolla that had been left running was stolen from an apartment parking lot in the 5600 block of Independence Ave. around 7:45 a.m., Oak Forest Police Chief Jason Reid said.

At 8 a.m., Alsip police were called to a two-car crash in the area of 127th Street and Rt. 83, Alsip police said. One of the drivers ran westbound into a residential area, damaging multiple fences while attempting to evade police, police said.

Alsip and Crestwood Police officers were able to find and arrest 27-year-old Akram Hassan, of Chicago Ridge, in the area of 126 Place and Mansfield Avenue. Hassan had been driving the stolen vehicle, police said.

Alsip police charged Hassan with fleeing/eluding a peace officer, damage to property, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended license, and failure to yield right of way from private drive.
