D228 Donates Gloves To First Responders During Coronavirus Crisis

OAK FOREST, IL — Staff at Oak Forest High School and other Bremen Township High School District 228 schools were happy to help a group of first responders amid the new coronavirus outbreak. The school's science department donated several gloves to the Oak Forest Fire Department, a tweet embedded below shows.

The tweet from the school said the group was happy to donate to the firefighters who work "the front lines to keep us safe."

Vivian Turek, D228 science department supervisor and the entire District 228 administration thought it would be a good idea to help the first responders, Jamie Bonnema, a district spokeswoman, said.

In addition to Oak Forest fire, gloves were donated to the Oak Forest Police Department, the Tinley Park Fire Department, the Country Club Hills Fire Department and Midlothian Fire Department.

Additionally, a large box of safety goggles were donated to Advocate Christ Medical Center, Bonnema said.

"Our schools gave whatever they had available," she said, noting that at minimum three boxes apiece were donated to each department.

"If you have gloves, masks, etc. please consider donating to police, health care staff, grocery store staff and others on the front lines," OFHS wrote on Twitter while encouraging others to help as well.
