Man Selling Drugs Just Trying to Support His Kids: Oak Forest Police Blotter

Funny Money at the Shell

Police were called to the Shell Gas Station, 16702 S. Cicero Avenue, after a customer called to complain about receiving two counterfeit $10 bills the night before. The victim told police that she was in the station the night before and paid for gas with a $50. The clerk then gave her the two $10 bills in change, telling the victim it was the largest bills the station had at the time.

The next day, the victim was going to give her daughter one of the bills for lunch money and realized they were fake. The victim told officers that she just wants her $20 returned to her.

Fight Leads to Flats

Police were called to a residence in the 5900 block of Liberty Square Drive, after a resident reported all four tires on their vehicle being slashed sometime between 12:30 and 4:30 a.m. At the home, the victim said that he believed his live-in girlfriend caused the damage to his truck.

He told officers that he and the girlfriend had gotten into a verbal argument earlier in the night and that when he returned home he found a large kitchen knife on the counter and all the doors to the home open, with the girlfriend nowhere to be found.

Drug Dealer Just Wants to Support His Kids

Zachary R. Platt, 28, of the 5600 block of W. Vone Avenue, Monee, was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, and cited for failing to signal.

Platt was stopped at 158th and Terrace Drive after failing to signal a turn. During the traffic stop, officers smelled a strong odor of raw cannabis and two large stacks of money sitting on the passenger seat of Platt's vehicle. Police asked to search Platt and found a bag containing two large plastic baggies and one smaller baggie of suspected cannabis.

Officers took Platt into custody, at which point he said he was going to deliver the cannabis and that he was selling it to help support his children.

The cannabis was field-tested, which came back positive as cannabis. Platt was taken to the Oak Forest Police Station, where he was charged and place in a holding cell to await transfer to the Cook County Lockup for a bond hearing.

The cannabis and two stacks of money, which totaled $9,343, were taken by police as evidence.
