Ex-Oak Forest Cop Sentenced To Year In Jail For California Brawl
Arthur Edward Roman, of Tinley Park, must also complete an alcohol treatment program stemming from the 2016 incident.

A former Oak Forest police officer was sentenced to a year in jail Monday after he was found guilty last month for his part in a 2016 fight in Southern California, according to the Daily Pilot. Arthur Edward Roman, 30, of Tinley Park, also was ordered to complete an alcohol treatment plan and placed on three years' probation by an Orange County judge, the report added.
Roman's sister-in-law, Jessica Monique Roman, 30, of Lake Forest, California, was given a similar sentence Monday, April 16, stemming from the incident. Only her jail time was different, with the judge ordering her behind bars for 90 days, the Pilot reported.
In March, Arthur Roman was found guilty of felony assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and misdemeanor battery in connection with a brawl with two other men. Jessica Roman was acquitted of felony assault, but a jury found her guilty of misdemeanor assault and battery.

According to prosecutors, Arthur Roman, Jessica Roman and Martin Mario Roman — Arthur's brother and Jessica's husband — were in a parked car outside a gym Feb. 28, 2016, when Karam Aljarrah, then 17, and his brother-in-law, Aseem Dghem, walked by. Arthur Roman began yelling at the two, and the brothers then physically confronted the two men.
As a fight broke out between the men, Jessica Roman was accused of shoving Aljarrah to the ground before kicking him in the head. That's when Martin Roman repeatedly stabbed the teen in the buttocks.

Last year, Martin Roman, 28, pleaded guilty to felony assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, as well as misdemeanor battery and a sentencing enhancement for using a deadly weapon, according to the Pilot. He was given three years' probation, the report added.
Arthur Roman was placed on administrative leave from the Oak Forest Police Department following his arrest. He was an officer on the force from October 2014 to May 2016.
Although the criminal case is closed, the trio still faces a civil lawsuit from the fight, the report stated. Aljarrah and Dghem's complaint argues the brawl was racially motivated and contends the Romans confronted them after hearing them speaking Arabic, the report added.
