Fatal Shooting Of 17-Year-Old Happened At Oak Forest Condo: Police

OAK FOREST, IL β€” An investigation is ongoing into the Jan. 28 fatal shooting of a 17-year-old in Oak Forest, police said Thursday.

Tyonie Ashford, of the 16000 block of Laramie, was found just before 1:30 p.m. behind a building at 155th and Cicero. Ashford suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said. Officers rendered aid before he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Initial investigation by the Oak Forest Police Department Investigations Division and
the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force have "determined the incident was contained within a condominium unit at the address of occurrence."

There was and is no threat to the community, police said in a release Thursday.

Police wouldn’t say if they have a person of interest in the shooting.
