Former Alderman, City Administrator John Daly Dies

John Daly, who was 71 when he died Nov. 11, was a former alderman, city administrator and served on multiple city and village boards.

OAK FOREST, IL β€” Former Oak Forest alderman and city administrator John Daly died last week, according to city officials.

Daly served as alderman of the 4th Ward from 1983 to 1989, when he became city administrator. After over a decade in Oak Forest government, Daly became a village administrator for Orland Hills in 1994.

The 71-year-old also held positions as chairman of the Chicago Southland Convention and Visitor's Bureau and was a member of the Southwest Conference of Mayors. He also chaired for finance committee of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association for almost 20 years until he retired from the village in 2015.

During that time, Daly was elected to the South Suburban College Board of Trustees and was re-elected as Vice-Chair five times before he died, according to his obituary.

"As a friend, mentor, and public servant, John influenced the lives of countless people," his obituary stated. "His warmth, humor, and positivity will be missed by all."

Daly enjoyed playing golf, coaching and supporting his children in their activities. He was a husband, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and public servant.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 29, at Ravisloe Country Club, in Homewood from 5 - 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, family asked donations be made to the John A. Daly Memorial Scholarship Fund through the South Suburban College Foundation.
