Half-Pound of Weed Found in Mason Jar During Traffic Stop: Blotter

A Channahon man faces drug possession charges after police recovered a half-pound of pot in a mason jar from his car.

Dakota R. Lenzie, 21, of the 26100 block of West Winding Court, was charged with possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of brass knuckles, speeding and illegal transportation of alcohol, according to an Oak Forest police report.

An officer observed a Mitsubishi traveling 34 mph in a 20-mph zone, according to the report. Police stopped the car at about 4:53 p.m. on May 26 in the 5600 block of 159th Street.

The driver was ordered to lower his window after trying to close it, the report stated. An officer reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the car.

Lenzie, the driver, yelled that there was no reason for to get out of the vehicle after police asked him to, the report stated. He struggled with police and, at one point, reached into his pocket, the report continued. Police then recovered two pairs of brass knuckles from Lenzie, the report stated.

Inside the car, officers found a yellow, glass pipe in the cup holder, an open, black backpack that had a glass mason jar filled with 235 grams—a little more than a half-pound—of what tested positive as marijuana, the report stated.

Lenzie was then taken into custody to await a court hearing.
