'Hero' Local Dad Pushes Through Tough Times, Family Says

OAK FOREST, IL— Father's Day is the perfect time to give a big thanks to all the dads who put smiles on our faces. Oak Forest, meet Paul McDonough.

If you know a dad who sends sweet, silly, or thoughtful texts your way, you’re pretty lucky. Texts from Dad have a way of putting a smile on our faces — and this Father’s Day, we’re celebrating the fathers behind the phones!

Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to shine a light on awesome dads and the funny, insightful things they say. This submission comes from Erinmarie McDonough who nominated Paul McDonough of Oak Forest.

What makes your dad extra special?

He’s MY Dad. He’s been through a lot and he’s my hero. My dad has gone through three knee surgeries (two failed) and has to have another one later this year. He has also survived a massive stroke and tons of other health complications. My dad has taught me everything I need to know about cars and electronics and has taught me to never give up in life. Sadly, when COVID-19 hit he was let go from his job of over 30 years. Times have been tough but my dad still pushes through. My dad is the best dad that I can ask for. Happy Father’s Day, Dad!

Why do you feel your dad deserves the spotlight?

Well, it wasn’t fair to my dad if I didn’t put him on the Patch for his special day since my mom got her spotlight first.
