High School Students To Fill Bus With Food For Less Fortunate
Bremen High School is looking for a way to get creative with their annual food drive during the coronavirus pandemic.
MIDLOTHIAN, IL — High school students are looking to get creative during their annual food drive this year by filling a bus with food for those in need.
Every year on the Monday after Thanksgiving, Bremen High School’s National Honor Society and Student Council gives back to the community through its annual food drive. In partnership with Berkot's Super Foods, every Midlothian resident receives a Berkot's shopping bag, coupon and a letter from Bremen High School requesting donations, explaining the food drive process. Bremen students and staff then go door to door collecting non-perishable food items through early December.
Last year, roughly 5,000 bags were distributed, 11,240 pounds of food was collected, and students dedicated over 600 hours of labor to the drive with more than 130 student volunteers lending a hand, according to Bremen High School.

This year, students wanted to continue the food drive tradition – especially when so many are struggling due to the pandemic. However, the students also knew they had to get creative in how they would collect food while limiting hand to-hand contact.
While the students of Bremen High School will not be conducting pick-ups this year, they will still be distributing limited bags and encouraging their community to provide non-perishable goods. The event will take place at Bremen High School, located at 15203 S. Pulaski Road, on Dec. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m, for those who wish to donate.
