Icy Roads Slow Down Trash Pickup

Garbage collection might happen later in the day as trucks take it slow, Homewood Disposal says.

Icy conditions Wednesday morning have been slowing down some trash pickup routes for Homewood Disposal, the waste management service said. Garbage collection is still running as scheduled, but trucks might be arriving at homes later in the day than normal, according to the company, which serves Oak Forest, Tinley Park, Frankfort, Homewood, Flossmoor and other south suburban communities.

"Please be patient as we'll be maintaining slower speeds for your safety," Homewood Disposal stated in We're on our way!"

The freezing rain and treacherous roads have caused some trash collection companies to postpone service by a day. Waste Managment, which serves Joliet, Plainfield, Romeoville, Lockport and other western suburbs, has delayed pickup for a day in some areas.
