Labor Day 2018: What's Open And Closed In Oak Forest

OAK FOREST, IL β Labor Day is an American holiday that has drifted away from its roots, and it means different things to different people in different parts of the country. Are you a traditionalist who subscribes to the original idea that the first Monday in September should honor U.S. workers? Or is the day a way for you to mark the end of things such as the summer and wearing white if you're a non-bride?
Whatever camp you belong to, the one part about Labor Day everyone can agree on is that it's a federal holiday. And even if you don't have the day off, the holiday can still have an effect on your week. Here's a look at how Labor Day will impact institutions and services around Oak Forest:
City Government: City Hall and city offices will be closed. Federal, state and county offices also will be closed.

Schools: No classes for Forest Ridge Elementary School District 142, Arbor Park School District 145, Community Consolidated School District 146, Bremen High School District 228 and Consolidated School District 230.
Acorn Public Library: The library will be closed.

Postal Service: No mail service, and post offices will be closed.
Trash Pickup: Garbage collection will be delayed until the next day because of the holiday. Go to Homewood Disposal Service's website for more information.
Banks: Most financial institutions will be closed. Call ahead to be sure.
CTA and Metra: Trains and buses for the transportation agencies will be running on Sunday/holiday schedules.
