Nicky V's Collects Cash Donations For Injured Oak Forest Officer

The Oak Forest restaurant is collecting money for the officer injured in a fatal shoot-out last week. Police said he is in stable condition.

OAK FOREST, IL — An Oak Forest restaurant is collecting donations to support the Oak Forest police officer who was shot and wounded during a fatal shoot-out at Food For Less last week.

Nicky V's Beef and Dogs announced Sunday they will have a collection jar at their 6200 West 159th Street location for cash donations. All donations will be given to the Oak Forest Police Department in order to help the officer's family pay for medical and other expenses that may arise, a spokesperson for the restaurant said.

In addition to the cash collection, Nicky V's — which used to be Doug's Dogs — said they are hoping to plan a fundraiser for the officer with a deal that would allow the restaurant to donate a portion of the proceeds.

As of Monday, officials said the wounded officer remained in the hospital in "stable" condition. Spokespeople for the city would not go into further detail on his condition or identity but did say the officer is male.

"It's amazing that our community can come together and help those in a time of need," said Kimberly McCarthy, the resident who brought the idea to Nicky V's ownership. "Please continue praying for this officer and his family."
