No Lockdown At Oak Forest High School After Online Rumor Spreads

Oak Forest officials said there was not a lockdown at any schools in the city Thursday morning in response to a social media post.

OAK FOREST, IL β€” Oak Forest High School was not on lockdown Thursday, officials said, addressing a rumor that was posted to a community Facebook page.

According to a spokeswoman for the city, multiple parents and residents were concerned Oak Forest High School was on lockdown Thursday at around 8 a.m. After talking with the school and local police, it was determined the post was untrue.

"No schools in our community are on lockdown," an online statement from the city read. "There is no threat to public safety."

A Mokena school was under a soft lockdown at the same time Thursday morning, but officials said they are not sure if the nearby lockdown sparked the Oak Forest rumor.

Mokena's Liberty Junior High School went into soft lockdown at around 8:53 a.m. Thursday due to a carjacking close by but the school and area has since been secured, Mokena police said.
