Oak Fest Not Happening This Year, Despite Rumors: City Officials

Rumors circulating social media about Oak Fest, an annual festival which was canceled permanently in 2020, are not true, officials said.

The festival ran from 1987 to 2019, but the committee which put it on each year disbanded in 2020 due to difficulties running the giant event.

OAK FOREST, IL — Oak Forest's former annual festival will not be happening this year, according to city officials.

The group that organized "Oak Fest," a weekend-long festival which was held over the Fourth of July, permanently disbanded in 2020 following a cancellation due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The festival ran from 1987 to 2019, according to event organizers, and was set to have its 33rd year in 2020 before a COVID-19 outbreak caused the fairgrounds to cancel. A month later, the commission announced it voted to disband permanently due to "the difficulty of running an event solely from donations."
