Oak Forest Alderman Rich Simon Dies Week Before Resignation: Officials
Simon served on the City Council for nearly 40 years, Oak Forest officials said. His formal resignation was scheduled for May 10.

OAK FOREST, IL — Alderman Rich Simon of the 2nd Ward died Wednesday night, according to Oak Forest officials.
Simon had announced his decision to resign before an April 26 City Council meeting and was set to officially recommend a successor at the May 10 meeting.
According to officials, Simon served on the City Council for almost 40 years and was a U.S. Navy veteran. During his time as alderman, he worked on flooding and drainage issues drawing on his expertise as the founder of Simon Plumbing.

Simon was also an avid sports fan and involved with the Oak Forest Bengal Football Boosters, Oak Forest Jaycees, Oak Forest Baseball Association Board of Directors and Oak Forest Girls Softball League.
"I just can't thank him enough for all his years of service," said Oak Forest Mayor Henry Kuspa.
