OAK FOREST, IL — Almost 100 new housing units will soon be available in Oak Forest, City Council members voted at a recent meeting.

The council approved a mixed-use development at 15644 South Cicero Avenue which is set to include 75 multi-family units and 15 row homes, which are similar to townhouses. The development also has plans for commercial space on the first floor.

A spokeswoman for the city said Oak Forest purchased two former apartment buildings which sat at the planned site on 157th Street. Both apartment buildings were demolished at the cost of the city, however, the developer will purchase the property from the city before beginning construction.

Demolition and construction is expected to begin this year, city officials said, with the row homes being built first. The developer also told city council members they plan to include a small parking lot near the residence that can hold about 30 vehicles.
