Oak Forest Fire Gets $44K Grant For Battery-Powered 'Jaws Of Life' Rescue Equipment: City

The Oak Forest Fire department has been awarded a public safety grant to purchase battery-operated extrication equipment.

OAK FOREST, IL — Oak Forest Fire first responders will be better equipped to pull people from danger, with the help of a $44,000 grant for additional essential equipment.

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation recently awarded the Oak Forest Fire Department a $44,900 grant to purchase battery-operated extrication equipment—enhancing the safety and effectiveness of the department’s emergency operations, the City said Tuesday.

The specialized equipment is vital for the rapid and safe rescue of individuals who are trapped in vehicles or confined spaces as a result of serious accidents or emergency incidents. The new tools have several advantages over traditional hydraulic tools, including increased maneuverability, reduced tripping hazards, and faster deployment.
