OAK FOREST, IL — After years of criticism and confusion from residents, Oak Forest officials announced they are putting together a committee to discuss getting new holiday decorations for the city.

Alderman Jim Emmett of the 5th Ward made a motion to form the committee at a Jan. 11 city council meeting, to which Mayor Henry Kuspa quickly seconded.

"We know the last ones were a disaster," Emmett said. " And we know the criticism we've been receiving on our intersections."

The decorations, meant to be a green and white portrayal of snowflakes blowing in the wind, are often mistaken for seahorses or pineapples when they are put up on light poles across town.

"I'd like to have a woman on there with me because they have better taste than I do," Emmett added.
