Oak Forest School Districts Cancel, Go Remote Due To Winter Storm

The storm is expected to hit Illinois Tuesday night. Check if your school district is conducting e-learning or closing below:

OAK FOREST, IL — Several local school districts are closing for remote learning Wednesday due to a winter storm predicted to hit portions of Illinois.

District 145:

  • Will conduct remote learning.
  • Students will be sent home with materials to work remotely on Tuesday.
  • Lunch will not be provided on Wednesday.

District 143:

  • Officials have not determined if they will be conducting remote learning.
  • Students will not be in the building on Wednesday.
  • Lunch will not be provided Wednesday.

District 228:

  • Students will be required to attend school remotely.
  • All students must full out a virtual attendance form by 10 a.m. Wednesday to be considered "present" for school.
  • Students were instructed to refer to their Google Classrooms to check assignments and can chat remotely with teachers from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

District 142:

  • Students will be required to attend school remotely on Wednesday.
  • No staff or students will be allowed in the building.
  • Lunch will not be provided Wednesday.

Southwest Co-Op for Special Education:

  • Will be closed Wednesday with no remote option.

Fierke Education Center:

  • Will conduct remote learning.
  • Students should find more information on Seesaw or Schoology.
  • Before and after school activities for Wednesday are cancelled.
  • Tech support for remote learning can be reached at techsupport@district146.org.

Midlothian Park District:

  • All before and after school activities will be cancelled Wednesday.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Tuesday activated 130 members of the Illinois National Guard to ensure that all state resources are in place to prepare for Winter Storm Landon. Forecasters are saying that certain portions of Illinois could see between 1-2 feet of snow between Tuesday night and Thursday.

Closer to Chicago, forecasters with the National Weather Service are expecting 5-11 inches of snow starting Tuesday night, with the heaviest expected south of the city. A second round of snow is expected to arrive Wednesday night into Thursday.

Central Illinois could see up to 20 inches of snow, with blizzard/whiteout conditions likely. Western Illinois and into the Chicago area will remain under winter storm warning, with heavy rain in Southern Illinois.
