Oak Forest Spends $500,000 On Public Works, Video Upgrades

The money will be used to upgrade broadcasting systems and public works fleets.

OAK FOREST, IL — The city of Oak Forest approved a $500,000 spending package last week that will be used to upgrade decades-old broadcasting systems and its fleet that is used to maintain or repairs water and sewer lines.

The bulk of the money will be used for trucks and equipment for the Public Works Department, The Daily Southtown reported. The city will will spend a little more than $50,000 to buy a step van that will be used for broken water mains, and spend another $6,000 to upgrade another vehicle it already owns. Other purchases include a truck with a bucket and crane, and a camera that can be snaked through sewer lines.

The council also voted to spend $158,038 for a video broadcasting system that will permit it to better distribute recorded council meetings and other information on local cable access stations. Oak Forest's cameras are 20 years old and its production systems, 15 years old, the Southtown reported.
