Pot Worth More Than $10M Seized During Midlothian Traffic Stop

A drug-sniffing Chicago police dog discovered more than 1,500 pounds of marijuana in a pickup truck and trailer last week.

MIDLOTHIAN, IL β€” More than 1,500 pounds of marijuana and pot-related products with a street value of more than $10 million was seized by Chicago police during a traffic stop in Midlothian last week, according to the department. A drug-sniffing dog with the CPD's narcotics unit detected the pot during the stop, which was part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation, police said.

Officers pulled over a pickup truck towing a trailer just before 7 p.m. Thursday, June 21, in the 14200 block of Menard Avenue, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. That's when a Chicago police dog caught the scent of marijuana, which led investigators to search the truck and trailer, uncovering the pot and other THC products, the report added. Investigators believe the pot was being shipped from California to Chicago, police said.

Jason Z. Tanner, the truck's 42-year-old driver from Lakehead, California, was arrested following the stop, the Sun-Times reports. He was charged with possession of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana and ordered held on $50,000 bail.
