OAK FOREST, IL — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

The Oak Forest High School Soccer team goes out of their way to make community service a part of what they do. Not only are the students on the team exceptional in the classroom and on the field, but they contribute to the community off of the field as well. Many examples can be found on their website under the Community Service Tab. Members of the Boys & Girls OFHS Soccer program spent their Sunday morning volunteering at Dulles Elementary School in Englewood delivering books to kickstart their library. The team raised over $3,000 to benefit the Keyser Family Pediatric Cancer Center during their annual Fight Childhood Cancer Night game. In addition, the team has adopted 2 mile stretches of 159th St. and Cicero Ave. as part of Illinois' Adopt a Highway program and has held a number of clean up days.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

Oak Forest High School Soccer is more than just a soccer program—it is part of the community and its players are developed into productive members of the community.
