Suspect Attempts to Set Fire to Woman's Car: Police Blotter

SATURDAY, March 2

Victim's Other Car Set On Fire

Police were called to a residence in the 5800 block of Corey Lane, after a resident reported somebody attempted to set fire to her car.

The woman told police this was a second attempt at damaging her car. Officers noted a wooden spoon, wrapped in a rag, sticking out of the car's gas pipe, with scorch marks on the rag.

The victim told officers that previously, an unknown suspect did something similar to her other car, causing $2,000 worth of damage. The victim said she did not know anyone who would wish to harm her or her cars.

FRIDAY, MARCH 1

Police Find a Missing Car

While on patrol, police officers noted a tan Ford Focus in the north parking lot of Aldi, 15441 Cicero Avenue. Officers knew that the car matched the description of a missing car from Midlothian and ran the car's plates, which confirmed.

Police contacted the Midlothian police, who then took over securing the car and notifying the car's owner.

THURSDAY, Feb. 28

A Little Late to be Driving without Headlights

David Ponce De Leon, 16, of the 5900 block of Victoria Avenue, was charged with no valid driver's license, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia, following a traffic stop in the 5800 block of 159^th Street.

Police stopped Ponce De Leon after witnessing him driving without headlights around 1:20 a.m.

During the stop, Ponce De Leon told officers he did not possess a driver's license and officers immediately took him into custody.

During a search of the car, officers found two baggies containing a green, leafy substance, between the passenger's seat and center consol, according to the report.

The substance field-tested positive as cannabis.

Ponce De Leon was taken to the Oak Forest police station, where he was processed and released on bond, pending a court date.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 27

Theft in the Family

Police were called to a home in the 15700 block of Jon Road, after a victim reported a delayed theft at her residence.

A woman told police that while packing for a trip she noticed a pair of shoes and a business suit missing from her closet. She told officers that her son, who currently is living with the victim, has a history of drug problems and has stolen from her in the past.

The victim said she went to Plato's Closet in Orland Park and found her shoes and suit, and employees at the store identified her son as the person who sold the items.

After the victim returned from her trip, she told officers she checked her home safe and noticed several items of jewelry were missing. The missing items totaled more than $8,500 in value.

The victim told officers her son was the only other person who knows the combination to the safe and that she suspected he had stolen the items.

Police told the victim how to start an eviction process through the court system and how to obtain a civil order of protection as well.

TUESDAY, FEB. 26

Stepfather Turns in Auto-Wrecking Stepdaughter

Amanda L. Chapman, 32, of the 15300 block of LeClaire Avenue, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, no insurance and failure to give information after striking an unattended motor vehicle, following an accident in the 15100 block of LeClaire Avenue.

While on patrol, police noticed heavy rear-end damage to a car in front of a home in the 15100 block of LeClaire Avenue. Police stopped and found the owner of the car, who said that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect struck his car. The victim told officers he noticed the damage around 6:30 a.m. That morning.

Later that morning, police received a call informing them that Chapman was the driver of the car who struck the victim's vehicle. The caller, Chapman's stepfather, was told to have Chapman contact police about the accident.

Chapman arrived at the police station and told officers that she struck the car while reaching down to turn on the heat in her car, according to the report. Chapman stated she drove away from the accident because she became nervous and did not know what to do, according to the report.

Chapman was charged and released on bond, pending a March 22 court date at the Bridgeview Courthouse.

MONDAY, FEB. 25

Stumbling Drunk in the Roadway

Ramiro Corrillo Trujillo, 35, of the 5100 block of W. 159^th Street, was cited for being intoxicated in a roadway, after police stopped him near the intersection of 156^th Street and LaClaire Avenue.

Police were called to the scene after a witness reported a drunk man walking in the street.

At the scene, police found Trujillo, whose breath smelled like alcohol, and who spoke in a very slurred manner, according to the report.

Due to his level of intoxication, police cited him and he was released.

Cannabis Possession, Warrant Arrest

Salahedin Saadah, 18, of the 5700 block of Independence Avenue, was cited for unlawful possession of cannabis after a traffic stop in a parking lot in the 15200 block of Cicero Avenue.

During the stop, police ran Saadah's information and it returned an outstanding warrant for violating an order of protection, according to the report. Officers immediately took Saadah into custody and transported him to the Oak Forest Police Department.

At the police department, officers found two plastic baggies containing a green leafy substance in Saadah's shoe. The substance tested positive as cannabis, according to the report.

Saadah could not post bond for his warrant and was placed in a holding cell to await a bond hearing in the 5^th District Court Building.
